Happy World Architecture and UN World Habitat Day!
Each year, the first Monday of October is marked as World Architecture Day and UN World Habitat Day. They are celebrated together to reflect on the built environment of our world to possess the human right for every person to adequate shelter. Also, it is meant to emphasize the world on collective responsibility for the future of humankind."
Lack of basic building techniques and poor infrastructure have encouraged insecurity, crisis, and chaotic situations. According to UN-Habitat, more than 1.8 billion people in the world, lack adequate housing. Estimates show that by 2030, 40 percent of the world’s population will need access to adequate housing.
Usually, the poorest and most vulnerable populations are affected the most. The COVID-19 pandemic has reminded us once again that any type of crisis affects people disproportionately. In many cities, people couldn't follow safe practices because of the lack of clean water, air, and space. How we develop our built environment directly impacts the social and economic factors.
Lots of Policy Makers, Urban Planners, Architects, Engineers, and a few other professionals have been working to promote a better living for everyone. If we all come together harmoniously as users of the world, we will definitely impact positively by just not be responsive to sustainability but also being instrumental in its implementation and evolution. This will definitely reduce inequalities and concentrate on the inclusion of vulnerable populations to access adequate housing.
